Information Needed

I’m looking for information on voices in the woods. I’ve noticed a few reports from users who have heard voices while out in the woods/wilderness calling out to them. I’ve read a lot of the legends and lore from around the province, and while there have been a lot of reports of ghosts crying out, they’re almost always paired with a visible apparition, which leaves me skeptical. Is there some other explanation for what they’ve been hearing?

@sharpeeye-admin I’ve heard of these sorts of encounters before - One time I asked my mother if she believed in ghosts after she’d had a few drinks, and she told me that one time when she was little, visiting her grandparents out in Port aux Basque, that she heard her grandmother’s voice outside her window, calling her outside. It was dark, and she couldn’t see anything, but the voice was crystal clear. It stayed until she called out to her mom, and then it stopped. Her mom reassured her that her grandmother had been in bed the whole time, but she knew what she heard. When I asked her about it again the next day, she wrote it off as the wine probably hitting her a bit too hard and said it was just a nightmare - but I saw her checking the windows were all locked before going to bed.

@sharpeeye-admin According to old legends, fairies can mimic the voices of loved ones to lure people through the woods. The old classic is always a kid hearing the voice of their mother and getting lured into the woods. Could be something along these lines, but fairy stories are less and less common these days.

@sharpeeye-admin If you want the truth, they probably just overheard other people walking on a nearby trail. Most of your reports come from parks and highly urbanized areas with high populations - you’re virtually never actually alone in those areas. With enough trees and an active imagination, it’s easy to turn overhearing a jogger talking on the phone into a supernatural encounter. If there are really ghosts out there, why does no one ever catch them on camera, or have a witness to back them up? “I was alone, and there was no one else around who would have heard it, but it really happened I swear” They just want the attention.

@sharpeeye-admin Reminds me of the old stories about fairies. I did a project on them for school years ago, and I read this really old book that said that people here used to take fairies more seriously than ghosts or aliens - they were the real threat if you were out in the woods on your own. If you heard someone talking to you, when you were all alone, or on the rare occasion you saw one before it saw you, you were supposed to be quiet, and get as far away as possible.
